Bandhavgarh
National Park:
Believed
to be the source of the entire population of white tigers in the
world, this park also boasts of the highest tiger density in the
world. The park draws its name from the hill fortress that stands
at the entrance to the park and dominates the landscape for miles
around. The park was initially constituted over a 105 sq km private
hunting reserve of the erstwhile Rewa dynasty whose ancestral
capital was situated atop the Bandhavgarh hill. The park, which
now covers nearly 443 sq km of sal and mixed forest, along with
the adjoining Panpatha wildlife sanctuary, is one of the best
known tiger reserves of India. The ancient caves, sculptures,
temples scattered all round the fortress make Bandhavgarh a complete
destination.
